This is an e-mail from Bente Vennerod, our exchange student from Norway to her hostess in the US, LuAnne Nelson (Wright):

Hi Luanne, how it gave me a kickoff talking to you on the phone! And good that we have the possibility to keep better contact through e-mail. There is much to say about my ability to keep in touch.
I looked at the website blackshirt58 and got really impressed, what amarvellous job those people in charge  of the reunion committee are doing, and so much fun to go more into it, photos now and then etc. I AM going to find the yearbook and have a closer look, I certainly remember many names, mostly girls, and it struck me that two of the girls in our gang actually have died, sorry to see that. More later. Bente

Hi, Wanted to let you all know what fun we had at the petfectly orchestrated reunion.  It was so well planned that every minute was busy.  One of the highlights for many of us was the breakfast with our Calhoun Grade School where about 18 of us gathered for about 2 hours and shared fun stories and memories.  Then off to  a tour of Waukehsa High School (what a beautiful school where we found out that the lockers are the same ones we used 50 years ago..... supposedly they were so well made that they will possibly last for another 50).  The pool is brand new and is used for National events as well as opened to the public when not in use.  None of us remembered the gym being so big but the auditorium looked more like what we had remembered.  Ken Reichert generously invited us all to his home  across the street where we enjoyed snacks and were surprised at his talent for art which was prominent throughout the house....who knew he had that talent as well as sports???  Many of us joined the Wright's for their renewal of vows which was quite emotional for all who attended and another occasion to get to know more about our classmates, their families and their activities over the last 50 years.

The cocktail party and the excellent dinner party with the ongoing slide show (thanks to Dave Fuller and his expertise), and the fun conversations with classmates....... thankfully we all had name tags as we might have had trouble identifying each other; the original male & female quartets who sang the school song and speakers like Joe Connelly who gave the speech from our graduation in 1958 that his mom had saved.....I'm sure most of us heard it for the first time!!!  and the tribute to Rich Hernandez that Don Beringer gave was quite emotional.

Everything was perfect and a big THANK YOU to our committee for doing such a terrific job and giving of their time and talents so that we could have a wonderful 50TH.  It ended too quickly but since this site will be up for at least a year, hopefully we will hear from those who could not attend or those who did attend and enjoyed it as much as we did.  Thanks again to all for a wonderful weekend of fun and renewal.

Classmates:
What a great time we had.  Why did we wait for 50 years to become so friendly?  It was fun to see all of you, even though I didn't get to talk to a lot of you.  Too little time.  Seeing you was great!  Let's keep this website going.  I have sent Dave Fuller a contribution to keep it going, along with many thanks.  I hope we're all around for the next reunion in five years.
Till then,  Bill Schmitt

What a great reunion!  I wish more of you had been able to join us! We crowded the room on Friday evening (probably surpassing the room limit).  The 50's fashion show was a hoot! Joan Meehan Haslow did a great job of organizing it.
I especially enjoyed the tour of WHS on Saturday morning since I have not been there since our graduation.  There were about 50 of us and we were invited to Ken Reichert's home after the tour for treats (he lives right across the street). We also saw a display of his beautiful paintings. He is an excellent artist!
Saturday evening's dinner and program were very special. The evening came to an end all to soon. If you were not able to attend I would strongly recommend purchasing a DVD for $20. If Dave Fuller sold out he might be persauded to make some more after some R&R.
We were also told that this great web site would be here for at least a year. So please continue to use it.  How did you enjoy the reunion?

I just wanted to say thanks to all who planned the 50th Reunion and to Dave for this great Web page to keep us all informed on former classmates. It is fun to see many classmates from Randall grade school days also so more than 50 years for some of us.
Sorry I will not be able to attend.  Living in Florida on the East coast, and a husband who is a Retired Air Force Weather Forecaster, we have our hands full keeping up on the Congo line of storms and Hurricanes this year.
Hope all have a great time!
Best to all for happy and heatlhy years to come.

I will not be able to join you, but congratulations with a coming reunion, sucessful due to the fantastic work of a committee having done an outstanding job beforehand!
I noticed that one of the members was not quite sure what to with his life afterwards!
I often think about my wonderful year at Waukesha Highschool, and looking into the yearbook always brings memories back. Interesting also now to study the website with photos then and now etc.,so many wonderful people!
Reading through these life stories of people - some well remembered - and some not  makes me realize that the important things in most people's lives are very similar all over the world:
Love, family, career, friendship!
As for myself , after finishing junior college I started university studies, majoring in languages, German and English.  Falling in love with Even at the campus resulted in 3 children by the end of the 60ies.  I managed to continue the studies while having babies, and have now been working for almost 40 years as a language teacher for 16-18year-olds.
Our 3 children have all careers in busineess administration and data. Our 9 beautiful grandchildren range from 20-8 years old, and we see all of them quite often, some living close to us, and some in Oslo.
We live in a little town in the south of Norway, best known among Norwegians as the great summer holiday town.  The photos ,sent by Luanne to the website, give an idea of the situation in winter, more quiet but very charming!
(I also managed to send a photo from a holiday in Barcelona, spring 08, with all children and -inlaws and 9 grandchildren, very pleased with myself, no expert!)
We have now moved away from our big house into a smaller apartment in the town center, very advisable for people who find it hard to manage garden work and maintenance of every kind.
In my spare time I play some bridge and golf, and as a member of our local painting club I take an active part in our yearly exhibitions - not believing that we are artists - but may be pretending for a short time!
As a retired teacher, still married to Even, 75, my life is turning into a new era, we plan to settle in warmer regions in Spain in the winter ;if our health allows it..
I have had my share of health troubles with a breast cancer (healed) and arthritis, and Even has a lot of problems with a heavy diabetes, but we are quite content with life and hope to have some good years ahead of us now.
I wish you all a very happy reunion, and thank you for giving me the possibility to say  hello in this way.

Many warm greetings from Bente

After HS graduation I went to U of Madison for 2 years & then moved to Milwaukee & graduated from Mount Sinai Hospital School Of Nursing. I met my husband, Dr Burton Friedman, while in school & we married after my graduation & his internship completion in 1963. He went on to train in cardiology in Philadelphia where we lived for 2 years. I worked as head nurse in an intensive care unit at Riddle Hospital in Media, PA. We moved back to Milwaukee where we have resided for the past 43 years. We had 3 daughters in 5 years & I went back to school once they were in school. I obtained a BA degree in psychology from Cardinal Stitch College & an MS degree in Vocational Rehabilitation from UWM in 1984. I worked as a nurse case manager for Intracorp (Cigna) for 21 years. I have since retired & we are lucky to spend at least 6 months a year in AZ. All three of our daughters graduated college, married & we have 5 grandchildren. We feel truly blessed & are grateful for this time in our life. My husband & I plan to attend the reunion & are looking forward to seeing everyone. WHS was a great time for me & I have many happy memories. Anne (Ziggy)

Just a quick update. I will not be attending the class reunion--I don't do reunions. I started to do an update of my life's activities and it looked too much like an obituary. So I will spare you. Let it be known that I have enjoyed a full and happy life. We are now into our third generation. Would have sent a current picture, but this mature (old) lady keeps hopping in front of the camera (would remind you of my mother!) This same lady keeps smiling at me in the mirror everyday. Hope you can still smile, too. Best wishes to all.

Hi David and all! I am so impressed with the website and all the work involved.  I am a retired tour director. I never moved farther then Milwaukee but I've seen lots of the United States. I'm saddened by all of our deceased classmates - so many gone!  I look forward to the reunion in September.

Hi to all my 1958 classmates:

I'm eagerly anticipating seeing y'all in September. (A little southern lingo there) I lhave lived in Germantown, TN for the last 20 years. I wondered if any of you would be interested in playing a little golf on Friday A.M., the weekend  of the reunion? Let me know and we'll get something set up. This, of course, would be open to all gender and skill levels. Just an opportunity to have some time together.

Seeing this website is certainly bring back lots of old memories - the reunion should be fun.

I was at Waukesha South (for my Granddaughter's swim meets) a few times during the last year.  On the last visit, in February, I fell on the ice in the parking lot and broke my wrist.  Who should I sue???

See you all soon.  Suzi
