After high school graduation, I attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Then after 2 years, I was looking for more adventure, so I joined the Army Reserve where I served in the artillery and then Army Security, and after 6 years, came out as a 1st Sergeant. During this time I was also working in Real Estate and Insurance. In 1964, I married Claire A. Jensen of Stevens Point and we had 2 children, Erik, now 41 and Kerry, now 38. I started my own insurance agency and for those who live in the area it is known as HNI Insurance in New Berlin, WI.

Always looking for new adventures, I sold the business in 1978 and moved to Florida. I was an avid sailor and thought that the Wisconsin summers just didn’t offer enough sailing time. In 1982, I was divorced and subsequently married Kathy Coogan, my current wife of 25 years. In Fort Lauderdale, I also ran my own businesses, including an international yacht brokerage firm, which gave me the opportunity to combine my love of sailing with my work. Kathy and I bought a 47 foot sailboat and lived aboard for 10 years while we worked and hoped to someday do some long distance cruising. I did do an ocean crossing in 1991 when I took off with friends on their 46 foot schooner and sailed to the Azores. We had a wonderful trip except for the tropical storm that came up before the weather agency could even warn us about it. I spent some wonderful time in Bermuda, the Azores, Portugal, Spain, France and England.

In 1996, Kathy and I decided to cut our land ties for a year to sail to Maine, where we had honeymooned. After sailing up the coast from Fort Lauderdale and spending time cruising the Maine coast, we decided that the hustle, bustle and crime of South Florida was no longer where we wanted to be. So we took the boat back to Fort Lauderdale where we made a 5-year plan to move to Maine. Luckily it only took us 3 years and we now live in a beautiful 17-acre spot at the head of Penobscot Bay where we watch eagles, deer, seals, fox and much more.

Kerry lives in Milwaukee with her husband, Matt Peller and our 2 granddaughters, Noa, 5 and Finley, 3, and Erik lives in Orlando, Florida.

Kathy is Vice President for a company called, Training & Development Corporation and I am involved in real estate broker – definitely not yet retired.

I am a widow for the past six years.  I have three girls plus a stepson and a stepdaughter plus six grandchildren.  On loans to travel, I had gone on six cruises, and I am going to Germany and Italy for two weeks in April and May of this year.

I belong to two Red Hat groups and enjoy all the things we do with them. I am looking forward to the reunion.

Fifty years of life certanily not without strife
Two kids by twenty
career in modeling to make money but acting was my passion not modeling the latest fashion
Eight musical comdies throught the years
Yoga, Tennis, Skiing, Figure skating were the cures
A divorce by my 38th
but soon after, found a new mate
I was now the stepmother of four
not an easy chore
A new career as sales manager filled my days
But working for others was not my way
Starting your own buisness can be a fret
But twenty years and retired with no regret
I golf, play tennis, and volunteer as a model for fun
In the winter, I travel to find the sun
When I look back at all I have done
I can only wonder what marvelous things to come
As a cancer survior you learn to enbrace each sunrise

Comment: Fifty years and counting! That is a lot of living since we left the new south campus. I went on to Whitewater State College where I met and married Craig who I have shared my life with for 47 years.

We both completed doctorates at UW Madison and had thoroughly academic careers first as high school teachers and then more than 25 years as professors back again at UW Whitewater while living in Fort Atkinson. In 2000, we were both retired and bought a home in Tucson where, as winter residents, we still marvel at the beauty of the mountains and Sonoran desert and enjoy the many cultural opportunities. Our summers, however, have been back in Wisconsin on the Eagle River Chain enjoying a cottage we owned for more than 20 years. Our son, daughter, son-in-law and three grandchildren live in the Los Angeles area only a one day drive or a short flight from Tucson.

Retirement and good health have provided the opportunity to be active in our church, do a lot of international travel, and pursue my abilities as an artist. We have been blessed with adventures as we jumped off a mountain to paraglide over Queenstown New Zealand, rode mules to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, and spent a number of years Bass fishing on Table Rock Lake in Missouri. We plan to be in Wisconsin for the 50 year milestone of the class of '58, and I hope to see many long-ago friends there, all thanks to the reunion committee.

Married my wife Donna in 64 and we have two sons Robert and Richard. I retired from Waukesha Haliburton as a Manufacturing Manager in 97.  My hobbies are hunting, fishing and golf.

Karen Hoeppner (Krueger)

Marital status: Married
Children: 3
Occupation: Retired
Comment:      I was married right after graduation to Joel Hoeppner (class of 1955) and we have three children, 2 girls and 1 boy.  We celebrated our 50th Anniversary in Waukesha this summer with our family and friends.
We lived in the Waukesha area until 1984 when we moved to southwest Florida.
I worked for the State Attorney's Office in Sarasota and Bradenton for 19 years but retired in 2003. Joel retired at the same time and we moved to North Port, Florida.
Our two daughters and their families live near us and our son lives in Madison, Wisconsin with his family.
We have six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and will have a great-grandson in November.  We are so lucky to be able to share in their lives.
We are so blessed to be healthy and active in this beautiful State of Florida and are really enjoying ourselves.
I can't believe it's been 50 years already.  I won't be able to come to the reunion but will be thinking of you all as you remember all the "good old days" at Waukesha High.

After graduation I married George in September and we moved to Milwaukee.  I took an IBM keypunch course and worked at Oster until we started our family in 1960.  Eleven years later, we moved to Germantown with our three wonderful sons.  Our marriage slowly dissolved and we divorced in 1985 but remain friends.  I started working at GE Medical Systems in 1975 and retired as an administrator in 2004.  With my family grown, I enjoyed downhill skiing, tennis sailing and dancing.  After building my townhouse in 1989, my choices of entertainment and hobbies changed a bit.  I now enjoy gardening, wilderness camping in BWCA and Canada, canoeing, and of course fishing in ND, MN, UP, Canada and WI.  Although I am interested in basket weaving and stain glass, my greatest enjoyment is spending time with my seven grandkids - six boys and one girl.  We do everything from fishing, camping in the Boundary Waters, sewing with my granddaughter and going to their sports events which include everything from soccer to cowboy mounted shooting (CMSA).  My goal is to visit Alaska while I am still able to enjoy the wilderness.  I'm looking

forward to seeing everyone at the reunion.

Maris Holloway (Oelstrom)

Marital status: Married
Children: 4
Occupation: Bookkeeper
Comment: After graduating from Waukesha High School, I graduated from Wisconsin State College--Whitewater with a Bachelors of Education degree in Business.  My first job landed me in Racine at Washington Park H.S. teaching typing classes and being senior class advisor.  After meeting my husband Warren, marrying, becoming a farmer's wife, and expecting our first child, I transferred to Union Grove Union H.S. to teach typing and bookkeeping.  My teaching career continued to be either partime or substitute teaching at the public high school or at Union Grove Christian School while trying to raise two boys and twin girls and keep up the rigors of a busy farm, raising beef steers and produce.

At the age of 49 I went back to school full time at Gateway Technical College to learn the computer and various software programs to prepare myself for full-time employment in either the teaching field or the office.  This lead me to several office positions in the years following, finally settling on the current positon, that of a bookkeeper in the main office at Community State Bank located in Union Grove (only 2 miles from my home).

During this time I have had the opportunity to travel quite extensively to Europe, the British Isles, Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Japan as well as visiting children  and grandchildren (8) in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Washington and a sister in California.

The past 2 years have kept me more than busy in rermodeling the second house on our farm (a small ranch-type) to make it handicapped accessible for my husband who very suddenly developed a neurological problem which made it impossible for him to walk and confined to a wheelchair.  So after 42 years of marriage I FINALLY MOVED--just across the driveway from the big, 150-year old farmhouse.  I have also had to adapt to having a live-in caregiver (a Polish male) 5 days a week so that I can continue working full time.

Ed Howe

Ed Howe initiated the Aurora Health Care system in 1984, when, as President of St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee, he accomplished the first major affiliation between competing hospitals in southeastern Wisconsin. He founded Aurora based on a single idea: there is a better way to deliver health care. Largely through a series of affiliations, mergers and acquisitions, Aurora has become Wisconsin’s leading health care system and largest private employer, and has become a nationally recognized leader in efforts to improve the quality of health care. Aurora has sites in more than 90 communities throughout eastern Wisconsin, including 13 hospitals, more than 100 clinics and over 130 community pharmacies. More than 3,400 physicians are affiliated with Aurora Health Care, including more than 700 who make up Aurora Medical Group.

Ed Howe retired as CEO of Aurora in early 2007, after 33 years of service.  During his tenure at Aurora he served on a number of boards and committees, including the Greater Milwaukee Committee, the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce, Competitive Wisconsin, and Global Healthcare Exchange (GHX), a healthcare supply chain solutions company.   He was also actively involved on the boards of the Blood Center of Southeastern Wisconsin, United Way of Greater Milwaukee, Wisconsin Manufacturers, the Wisconsin Hospital Association (past Chair), and Premier, a national health care alliance of more than 240 health care systems. He was ranked number 23 in Modern Healthcare’s 100 most influential people in healthcare.

Ed received his MBA from the University of Chicago and earned a BBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.   Prior to coming to Milwaukee, Ed served in various administrative capacities at The Ohio State University Hospitals in Columbus, Ohio and served as its Director from 1972-1974.

William Hurula

Marital status: Married
Children: 3
Occupation: Salvation Army Officer (Commissioned and ordained)
Comment: It has never been my privilege to attend a "Class of 58" reunion.  There is something special about the 50TH, and I don't want to miss it.  I think I was rather inconspicuous as a class member, and doubt anyone will have recollections of who I am.  Many of my class members made positive impressions on me, and I hope to be able to return the favor.

I was a product of the Wisconsin State Welfare system as a foster child.  Childhood was no fun for a lot of reasons.  A difficult childhood brought on feelings of inadequacy and insecurity.  My happiest moments were experienced at The Salvation Army where I met people who really cared about me.  I was a recipient of gifts at Christmas (thanks to the coins in the kettles), weeks at summer camp, learning to play a horn, and many other life enrichening events.  I really enjoyed learning about God, Jesus, discovering the meaning of life, and exploring the Bible.

I was never encouraged by anyone to attend college after graduation (Did we even have class advisors back then?).  So, I was off to the US Army on August 4, 1958.  I did 8 weeks of basic at Ft Leonard Wood in Missouri and followed that with 8 more weeks of Basic Army Administration Course.  My next assignment was to Ft Lewis, Washington to serve as a Personnel Management Specialist in an artillery outfit.  I am grateful the DOA sent me to Tacoma because I met my wife the night I arrived in the city.  The meeting took place at The Salvation Army church where youth meetings were being held.  I never dated all though high school because I didn't think I could handle the rejection if I was told "No."  I found Donna to be so different than any other girl I had met.  She made me feel at ease and had a fantastic sense of humor.

Four months later I was off to serve at the Orleans Area Command in Orleans, France.  I spent two years in personnel and matured a whole lot.  Travel had great appeal to me, so I worked at a base theater manager and projectionist (I still see every change over spot when watching a movie in a theater) in the evenings and on weekends.  I had the opportunity to visit 14 countries, including the Middle East.  These were life changing events for me.

Following active duty I became employed as a cost analyst at the Wisconsin Electric Power Co for a period of three years.  In September 1964 Donna and I entered The Salvation Army College for Officer Training on Chicago's North Side just blocks from Wrigley Field.  I graduated at the top of my class and had the opportunity to represent my fellow cadets by speaking to 3,500 at Orchestra Hall.

Our first appointment was Iron Mountain, MI where we served for 6 months.  This was followed by these appointments:
Fond du Lac, WI 6 years as commanding officer
Grand Rapids, MI 1 year as finance trainee
Peoria, IL 4 years as Chief Finance officer
Kansas City, MO 6 years as Chief Finance officer
Grand Rapids, MI 1 year as second-in command for
     Western Michigan Division
Lee Summit, MO as Vice-President Finance at John Knox
     Village (Sabbatical)
Flint, MI 7 years as Genesee County Commander
Des Plaines, IL 4 years as Ass't CFO for the 11 state
      Central Territory - earned MBA
Kansas City, MO  4 years as General Secretary for
      Business Administration
Oakbrook Terrace, IL 2 years as Commanding Officer for
      DuPage County
Alexandria, VA, 5 years at National Headquarters as
      Chief Finance Officer for USA

I cannot begin to describe the fantastic life I have enjoyed since June 1958.  A great high school education helped prepare me for what  was to follow.  The trip continues following our official retirement in February 2006.  Now I spend two weeks per month as an internal auditor for The Salvatin Army Western Territory.

Donna and I just celebrated 45 years of marriage.  I can't imagine taking this ride without her at my side.  We now get to enjoy watching our 3 children raise our 7 grandchildren.  We really look forward to those times when we have the grandkids all to ourselves, spoil them, and then return them to their parents.  What fun!
