Hi class of "1958", When my Dad turned 50, he said he was a half a century old-sounded pretty old to me. And now "we" have been out of high school that long!!! I guess we're only as old as we feel. I want to know how those years flew by so fast. So- what's my story- I married Paul (you know the martin bird watching thing) in Dec of 1958-We had seven-yes 7 kids. 5 boys and 2 girls-Todd, Greg,Linda,Mike,Charlie, Susan, and Matt. I was a stay at home Mom, parts chaser -(we ran a garage & body shop), accountant, gardener-etc. Went into banking in '83, retired from there in '96-went to "Old Toll Road"-office work, then on to Wayside Furniture, where I still am working full time. I divorced in 1989-we sold the log house that we had built and I moved into condo living. While in the body shop/garage business, we got into restoring old cars for fun-I even did the upholstery in one (I did say-fun didn't I!?) I guess that peeked my interest in sewing-so now when I have time, I do some quilting. Last year I went to Naples, Italy for 2 weeks, stayed at my newphew's villa- just outside of Napels. Had a glorius time-Rome, Mt.Vesuvius-all the tourist traps. Paul & I still remain friends and see each other for family functions-17 grandkids average out to about 1 party per month |

Dear Friends: After graduation from Waukesha High, I attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where I became a pharmacy-tech. While at Barksdale AFB, I met and married Roger Miller and we had two wonderful children and had a great life. After twenty-five year of the Air Force, Roger retired and had only three years of the "good life" as he died in 1987. I returned to the work force as a substitute teacher. Life for me has been good as I have a grand-daughter Katie Scarlitt. It is best to keep busy and forget that I am only 68 years old. I am sorry to miss this event but I will be thinking of you. The thought of 50 years since our graduation is overwhelming!!! Love to you all. Pat Dowling Miller |

Greetings to the class of ’58, with a special "hi" to all of my fellow graduates in the class of ’54 from Calhoun School. My wife, Joyce, and I were married in July, 1962; we recently celebrated our 46th wedding anniverisary. We have two daughters, Teresa and Kimberly, and two granddaughters, Megan (1988) and Cheyenne (1992). In September, 1958, I enrolled in the UW-Madison where I stayed until June of 1967. While in Madison, I received a B.S. in Pharmacy (1964), a M.S. in Pharmacology (1966) and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology (1967). During that time, I met and married Joyce Ann Krueger (WHS Class of ’61) and welcomed the arrival of our first daughter in September of 1964. Our second daughter, Kimberly, arrived in 1968 while I was completing a 2-year post doc at the National Heart Institute at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. The main research effort at NIH involved drug metabolism studies in human twins. After completing the post doc, we moved to Indiana where I accepted a position of Senior Toxicologist for a large pharmaceutical company, Eli Lilly. During the 8 years at Lilly, I developed preclinical data to support clinical trials of new therapeutics in man. Our next move was to Ashland, Ohio, where I accepted the position of Corporate Toxicologist and Director, Pathology and Toxicology .at Rhodia, the American subsidiary of Rhone Poulenic, a large French chemical company. When the French decided to conduct all of their toxicology studies in France, we moved on to a start-up company in Decatur, Illinois, since I had no desire to live in France. I was Director of Toxicology for 2 years in Decatur until the parent company closed that operation. Our oldest daughter decided to stay behind in Decatur where she eventually married and raised our 2 granddaughters. Joyce and Kim and I moved to Columbus, Ohio, where I worked another 5 years at Battelle Memorial Institute as Senior Research Advisor. At the urging of the National Cancer Institute, we moved to Birmingham, Alabama, where I conducted similar work as Head, Preclinical Toxicology, for Southern Research Institute. Battelle and Southern conduct research under contract to the U.S. Government and the private sector (i.e., pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies). I spent almost 20 years at Southern before I retired in 2006. During the last 25 years of my career, I worked closely with investigators at the National Cancer Institute developing new therapeutics, including several gene therapy agents, for the treatment of cancer. During my career, I held adjunct professorships at the University of Illinois (Environmental Institute) and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (School of Public Health and the School of Medicine). While at Southern, I received a grant from the National Gene Vector Laboratories (NGVL) to organize and then direct the NGVL National Pharmacology and Toxicology Center. At the urging of a number of former clients, I formed a consulting company (Rockhill Toxicology Consultants, LLC) almost immediately after retirement. After many years with few vacations, Joyce and I decided it was time to travel. In recent years we visited Alaska, Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia, and a number of National Parks in the continental United States, and we attended a number of photo shoots since retirement. A number of our trips have been to Phoenix, Arizona, where our youngest daughter, Kim, is a practicing attorney. |
